Events
The IU Retirees Association meets monthly during the school year, September through May.
Regular meetings feature speakers who are top IU administrators, scholars, coaches, or outstanding community leaders. These meetings are typically at 2 p.m.
The December and May luncheon meetings offer special programs and fellowship.
Expect some or all future meetings to be in hybrid format, available for in-person and on-line meeting. NEW PROCEDURE: If you wish to attend remotely then follow the registration link below for the particular program, any time prior to the end of the meeting.

- Wednesday, September 14 The first meeting of the 2021-2022 academic year featured a presentation by Fred Glass, past Director of Athletics at IU. He spoke about his new book, Making Your Own Luck: From a Skid Row Bar to Rebuilding Indiana University Athletics. Video Recording.
- Thursday, October 13 Tom Hustad, Professor Emeritus of Marketing in the Kelley School, spoke about "Big Bands in Jazz : A Brief Chronological History Featuring Some Key Performances Through the Years." PDF copy of slides. No recording is available.
- Wednesday, November 9 Marjorie Hershey, Professor Emerita of Political Science in the IU College of Arts and Sciences, gave her early interpretation of the results of the election. Video Recording.
- Tuesday, December 6 We had a festive Holiday Luncheon at the Bloomington Country Club, featuring a quartet of Jacobs School of Music students from the Singing Hoosiers. There is no video. But do check out this Album of photos taken by IURA board member Beau Vallance.
- Tuesday, January 10 Brad Cook, curator of photographs for the IU Archives, shared his favorite images as he told the story of the early days of IU up through the presidency of William Lowe Bryan. Video Recording. Take a closer look at the historical photos Brad shared here.
- Tuesday, February 14 at 2 p.m. William Yarber, Provost Professor in the School of Public Health, Senior Scientist at the Kinsey Insitute, and Senior Director the Rural Center for AIDS/STD Prevention, spoke on the history of the Kinsey Institute. Video Recording.

- Tuesday, April 11 at 2 p.m. Mattie White, Deputy Director for Athletics at IU, spoke on "50 Years of Title IX." No recording is available.
- Wednesday, May 10 An end-of-year luncheon buffet in the Terrace room at the Meadowood Retirement Community. Doors open at 11 am, buffet begins at 11:30 am. Harpist Erzsébet Gaal will play as background music at 12:30 pm, and will include four of Hoagy Carmichael's songs arranged for the harp. Seating is limited and reservations are due by May 1. - September 15 at 2 p.m. The first meeting of the 2021-2022 academic year featured the work of the Stone Age Institute in a presentation by its founding directors Kathy Schick and Nick Toth. Video Recording.
- October 13 at 2 p.m. Drew Johansen, IU Diving Head Coach, shared some of his team's experiences at the summer Olympics in Tokyo. The meeting also included a presentation by Efrat Feferman executive director of United Way of Monroe County. Video Recording.
- November 10 at 2 p.m. Shawna Girgis, Program Director for the IU Health South Central Region, spoke about the new IU Health Hospital, including plans for the "big move" coming in December and a virtual video tour. Representativea of IU Human Resources spoke about changes and updates to insurance and retiree benefits. Video Recording.
- December 1 at 11:30 a.m. An in-person Holiday Luncheon took place at the Bloomington Country Club. There was no formal program, but music was provided by an IU ensemble.
- January 12 at 2 p.m. Vice President Tom Morrison spoke on the IU Master Plan - current progress and future plans. Because of continuing pandemic concerns the meeting was online only. Video Recording.
- February 9 at 2 p.m. Fred Cate, IU Vice President for Research, spoke on issues of cybersecurity and the best ways to stay safe in today's world of hackers & scammers, including some of what IU does to maintain security. Video Recording.
- April 13 at 2 p.m. Perry Metz, who retired as general manager of WFIU and WTIU, spoke on “American news media are dying: What can we do about it?” We had about 25 people in the live audience and about 35 remote logins for the Zoom broadcast. Video Recording.
- May 4 at 2 pm IU President Pamela Whitten spoke to a combined hybrid meeting of the IURA and the Emeriti House, emphasizing some of her main priorities and responding to a number of audience questions. Video Recording.
- May 25 A festive luncheon at the Bloomington Country Club, with a program centering on the USA International Harp Competition coming up this summer. See the IURA Newswatch for more detail and making reservations.
